The 3rd round of HIEC projects in the East Midlands Region is launched. Following the success of previous projects and collaborations, EM HIEC is offering the opportunity to bid for funding to speed the diffusion and adoption of innovation and evidence-based good practice through education and training.
To tackle uncertainty about dosing schedule for bevacizumab (Avastin), we are conducting a multicentre randomised trial in England. This study, the TANDEM trial, is a factorial trial comparing low dose with standard dose bevacizumab, and monthly with two monthly review schedules. This issue is of such importance to the NHS, that the unusual step has been taken for a consortium of PCT commissioners in the East Midlands (the East Midlands Specialised Commissioning Group) to commission this trial.
NUH implemented a novel technological solution to address communication issues outside usual working hours in a highly successful project led by Dominick Shaw and Andrew Fearn. The wireless system has won an innovation award from Cisco. The data from the programme is being used by John Blakey to quantify and compare clinical activity, providing rapid and relevant information to improve services and training.
